Yes, A Long Post
About A Computer Store

Computer stores are everywhere, right? Who needs them? We have eBay. We have Circuit City and Best Buy and CompUSA. Big retailers who let you wander about with nary a salesperson asking if you need assistance. Yes, we have the wonderful pricing of eBay and checking the rating and shipping and waiting. Yes, there are alternatives to a hometown computer store.

Back in 1996-97, there was a Computer Renaissance store near my neighborhood. I would go there when I killed (yet another) floppy drive. I would go for cheap generic mice. Sometimes, when they had a good price on used ram, I'd pick up a stick.
One day, I went to get something at Computer Renaissance and it was gone. No sign saying they'd moved, only an empty store. Of course, I was sad but internet stores were starting up everywhere. Bargains were to be had. I was comfortable with my system and didn't need to window-shop extras.

Then, I killed another floppy drive. I do that a lot.

I went on eBay and checked prices - floppy's for $5 with $9.95 shipping - delivery time - hoping it isn't DOA. I didn't get the floppy.

About a week ago, I decided to setup a home network. I browsed and browsed - going from one site to the next, eBay, Amazon, OutletPC. Nothing wrong with any of those places, but I had a burning desire to simply walk into a store, look at my options and maybe make a purchase. I, atleast, wanted to see all the possiblities without using my back-arrow.
I went to a local 'big name' store and found very little selection and, of course, higher prices than the net, but it also didn't feel right. It didn't feel like a computer store. There was no joy in looking over the old and new. It was all new and sterile.

In desperation, I posted to Craigslist for anyone to let me know of a real computer store in my area. Someone wrote and said I should check out 2000.net Computers. I did - the very next day.

I'm sure the guy there thought I was crazy. I walked in and looked around grinning. Shelves of old and new - side-by-side. A glass showcase with ram - how I missed a case with ram!
They ask if they can help you. They build, repair, and upgrade systems. They will help you with networking. It's a real computer store, not some store that also sells stuff for computers. It was wonderful.
I picked up a few things I needed. I didn't have to worry about the seller's rating. I didn't have to wait for delivery. I am more than willing to pay a tiny bit more for that convenience. I even got that long-ago-forgotten, replacement floppy drive. I highly recommend you check out this store as well.     Here is their site
